GRAB YOURSELF A BARGAIN AT OUR CHARITY SHOP

THE LIONS SHOP
Shop_2[1]

The "Lions Charity Shop" is located at the end of the main street in Homsea, it is ideally situated with free on-street parking.

The shop is staffed by a mixture of Lions Club members (Lions) and non Lion volunteers. (The non Lion volunteers form the largest proportion of the staff). Some ladies have worked in the shop for many years. They are a very reliable and very useful asset to our organization, both working on the shop weekly rota and also filling in as required.

The overall management of the shop is coordinated by a small sub-committee of Lions who report with meeting minutes to the full Lions Meetings on changes and developments.  Regular meetings are also held with the shop volunteers and minutes are distributed to all shop personnel to ensure everyone knows of new instructions and changes as they are made.

There is always a Lion on duty in the shop during opening hours, with the Lions President keeping a watchful eye on everything.

Neither the Lions, nor the volunteers are paid (nor would they want to be!).  However, once every six months the club pays for the volunteers to have an evening out with food and wine at a local Restaurant. They are also invited to a number of Lions Club Functions.

The shop, as a business, does incredibly well.  The people of Hornsea and the surrounding villages support it by bringing in lots of items for sale and also by purchasing lots of items too. During the “season” (Mar-Oct) the shop is also very well supported by the “The Caravanners” and lots of visitors.

The shop opening hours are:

Mon-Sat      09.30           -        3.30

The shop is always in need of staff - so if you fancy giving up some of your free time to work regularly in a shop with a great bunch of hard working people, also meeting lots of interesting customers, please feel free to contact anyone in the shop and they will give you an application form.

No previous experience is necessary and there is no age limit.  Volunteers work a three hour session on an agreed weekly rota.

The telephone number of the shop is 01964 536400

Please, remember, the next time you are having a clear out, don’t throw it all away! Bring small resaleable items to the Lions Shop at 6 New Road Hornsea. We cannot take large items because the shop is simply not big enough for what we do now!

Trading standards apply to our shop just like any other and the rules mean there are some things we cannot accept like prams, cots, and bicycles unless they are in good condition and ready for resale. The cots therefore must be complete with the correctly fitted mattress.

Sorry but we do not accept TV's and Video recorders,  video and music tapes as these are a dead technology and take up too much storage space.  Having said that we do accept just a few children's videos since these are still selling.

Unfortunately, not everything brought into the shop is suitable for selling.  Inevitably, some ends up going into the rubbish bin.  However, this is kept to an absolute minimum.

Please, help us in this respect when you select items for donation to the Lions Shop.  Stuff that goes in the bins has to be paid for when it comes to disposal and that reduces the cash collected to help the community.

We seek to recycle as much a possible. This includes: Metals, Cable and Wire, Spectacles, Hearing Aids, Postage Stamps, Computer Printer Cartridges, Mobile Phones, Keys and Bags / Shoes.

Clothing, not suitable for selling is bagged up and sent for textiles sorting. Some may be suitable for third world countries or is sold on for shredding for Industrial Rags.  Bric-a-brac is offered for sale in the shop and when withdrawn for sale after three weeks is then boxed up for the local churches and other fundraising in the Hornsea District.  We try to make use of everything we are given to benefit the local community and wider charitable works.
